SBA Loan Application Approved!

After 8 months of processing, CGC's SBA loan application was approved. What does that mean?

  • Though still in a waiting position, we are now waiting on the final loan amount to be determined as opposed to waiting on whether or not a loan would be available.
  • Funds will be available to build a dining hall out of the flood plain.
  • SBA loans for this purpose are at 2% interest over 30 years with an 18 month deferral before a payment is made.

The plan is to use as little of the loan as needed. Just because we are approved doesn't mean we can necessarily afford a mortgage payment for the full amount.

A major funding mechanism is the TEN BUCKS A MONTH Club. You can read more at the bottom of this column.

  • Director of Facilities Stewardship
  • Gary Rhodes came to CGC in 2019. February the 7th to be exact, the evening we received our first major flood in the dining hall!
  • Gary was a full time and co-vocational pastor for 30 years. During those years he spent time leading construction projects for his church as well as their campground, Pinecrest in Fredericktown, MO. He came to us after years of on the job training.
  • What's up with the long title? His title acknowledges the spiritual aspect of all God has supplied. We keep everything serviced and repaired so it lasts us a good, loooong time.
  • Gary's wife, Joy, is an integral part of the CGC community as she volunteers for whatever needs to be done.
  • Gary and Joy have two adult sons living in Nashville, TN.

Work Day

was a phenomenal success!

  • Eighty-five volunteers participated.
  • Thirty out of 48 projects completed!
  • Began at 8 a.m. and wrapped up around 4 p.m.

What a Pastor Told Me

Interview with Daniel Medders

Lead Pastor, Erin Church of the Nazarene

Recently Rev. Daniel Medders told me his church in Erin, TN is going to build a new dorm at Camp Garner Creek. This is such a generous act, and the philosophy that drives the gift is interesting.

Finley Knowles - I'm blown away by your church's generosity and am thankful that God turned your thoughts toward CGC! This is great. What's the story behind a decision like this?

Daniel Medders - Our church has spent a great deal of time/money working on our own facilities and accomplishing objectives that benefit us. We run the risk of that mentality becoming our identity. It is our call to steward our resources in ways that benefit not only us but the greater Kingdom.

FK - I get that. I'm still getting over the excitement of what you've told me. How did this idea come up?

DM -  We are currently building a large structure on our own property this year, so we also plan to build a large structure for someone else. CGC feels like the perfect avenue for this.

FK - Do you have the expertise in your church to build everything? What will you have to bring outside contractors to do?

DM - We are fortunate enough to have the expertise within our church family which allows us to operate very close to a turn-key operation. Minus pulling permits, we are fully equipped.

FK - When do you think you’ll start, and how long will it take? Just an estimate.

DM - I know we want to wait until summer camps are completed, so we don't lose any sleeping capacity that is needed for the summer schedule. You can expect I will be talking with you to figure out the best time to break ground.

FK - Thank you again. I know God gets the credit, but I am grateful for your leaders' obedience. We'll be talking.

DM - Yes we will!

How Long

Until We Build?

Finley Knowles, Executive Director

I hear this question frequently, and I totally understand the curiosity. The anticipation.

It's been 7 months since the 8/21 flash flood. Isn't it about time we broke ground on our new dining hall? I've lived with that question for awhile. Three fence posts make the boundaries of my headspace. In this space I have peace and patience.

Trust - My theology and experience have proven I have nothing to worry about. No doubts. God will give Camp Garner Creek everything needed. That's an anchor.

Commitment - We are able to pay for many of the things that precede construction. We will not be tempted to force the matter. We won't let impatience and passion push us to an unwise decision.

Action - Waiting on God is not a passive activity. There is still much we can and should do.

  • We can pray. Prayer impacts everything else we do. I cannot emphasize it enough.
  • We can work with planners, surveyors, and insurance companies.
  • We can keep our constituents informed along the way.
  • We can work with the CGC Construction Committee to plan and be poised to move forward.
  • We can share our need. God has ways of putting the written word in front of the right people at the right time.

The Mitchell Tabernacle Mortgage is

Paid Off.

We praise the Lord!

-

  • CGC's Mitchell Tabernacle was completed in 2015.
  • The original mortgage was $1.5M.
  • The MidSouth District paid the mortgage originally, and for the last 3 years, CGC has been paying the monthly amount.
  • The CGC Camp Board made it a goal of our current budget year to pay off the Tabernacle. We didn't have any idea how that would be accomplished.
  • Eliminating this debt is a big step of preparedness toward affording the new Dining Hall.
  • CGC received a surprise donation, and our final mortgage balance of $225,024 is paid.
  • I am thanking the Lord for the gift and the giver!
