  • Through 2010 she continued in the kitchen, and expanded duties to help organize zipline activities and "whatever needed to be done." Katie learned CGC from the ground up.
  • 2011 - Then directors Diana and Ron Gilbert asked her to join the office team.
  • In 2012 Katie graduated from Austin Peay (Business Administration) and took on the accounting/bookkeeping role when the Gilberts retired.
  • Title: Director of Financial Accountability since August 2018. In this role she oversees all financial aspects of the operation.
  • Katie is the third longest-tenured employee.
  • Katie's husband, Michael, works at CGC on the Facility Stewardship Team.

Work Day

Saturday, April 2

Beginning at 8 am, Saturday, 4/2/2022, we will launch our spring work day. We have projects to line up to get us all ready for Summer Camps!

What's kinds of projects will we have?

The CGC staff will have projects ready for 100 or more people.

  • We can use 2-3 dozen people on a wood crew! We'll need people to pull trees and limbs off the creek bank, work with chainsaws, split wood, stack firewood.
  • At 9:00 am Chaplain Bob McKenzie will lead a group to pray for CGC. This is the most significant work any of us can do.
  • Police the grounds. The flood created a lot of ugly. Anything you see that is on the ground that doesn't belong there, pick it up and decide whether it's trash of a keeper.
  • Reset flags at the Mitchell Tabernacle. A storm broke the American flag pole, so we want to get that back together.
  • Lay new flooring in Cole and Drake meeting rooms in Johnson Lodge. We will need to raise money to do this one. It's about a $14K project.
  • Spread dirt where we have low places.
  • Lay a gravel path from the back door of the dining hall out to the Picnic Pavilion. Also plant some shrubs and ground cover along the path.
  • Replace the threshold for the Dining Hall emergency door.
  • Assemble picnic table sets and repair existing picnic tables.
  • Do you lay block? We have a project at the Youth Chapel.
  • Can you frame a wall and attach exterior sheeting? We have a project at the Youth Chapel.
  • Assemble/place 4 new outdoor rocking chairs.
  • Install a new awning at the Dining Hall entrance.

If you see a project you want to reserve, email Finley Knowles.

If you know you are coming email Lori Knowles.

If you have a preference for the kind of work

you want to do, let Lori know.

Financial Squeeze

is a Short-Term need.

from Finley Knowles, Executive Director

How does one sound a financial alarm without giving the impression that the ship is sinking? Maybe it's not possible, but I sounded the alarm on March 1, and 'less you think the ship is sinking, I assure you it is not.

..........BREAKING NEWS..........

What time is it? It's THANKFUL time!

$34,063 Donated

since March 1

All gifts will be matched! *

What impacted us?

  • Cash flow has been scarce since the first flood Feb 2019, and the 2021 flood zapped us again. CGC needed to restore the dining hall to pre-flood conditions and replace critical items lost due to flooding.
  • Groups using our campground usually pay for their accommodations before leaving at the conclusion of their event. However, we had receivables worth $30,000 from three groups that did not pay us during their event.
  • After 6 months FEMA has not approved our application for reimbursement.
  • The SBA has not approved our application for a low-interest loan. The SBA's role is to fund recovery loans for victims of federally declared disasters like we experienced last August.
  • Now for me to say "Covid" yet another time; our 2021 summer camps included fewer groups due to Covid cancellations. We had smaller than usual groups for those who did not cancel. Since we depend on the windfall of summer to carry us through winter and spring months, this financial decrease was notable. We did not have the cushion needed to carry us through.

I will post an update on our need after we close the books on March. I turned on the hazard lights, and I do not want to leave them on if there is no emergency.

Consider an extra gift to help bridge the gap.

Thank you TREVECCA for the delicious deal!

-

  • Trevecca Nazarene University has been remodeling the Jernigan Student Center (their dining facilities) over the last year.
  • During this remodeling, they had to set up temporary food prep, serving lines, and dining space.
  • The good news? Trevecca is donating several serving pieces to CGC. These will go a long way toward replacing items lost in the flood.
  • The university closes down their temporary kitchen location mid-March, and CGC will rent a truck and show these gorgeous stainless steel items to their new home!

These stainless serving tables will be

right at home in CGC's new dining hall.

God provides for us in a variety

of ways. It's really impossible to pin God down and say, "This is how it's done."
