Next Step as CGC Faces Construction

-

  • On January 26, the CGC Construction Steering Committee met with Dean Morgan (Architect, AIA) to discuss ways his firm could help us make excellent long range decisions when it comes to further developing the CGC Campus.
  • Mr. Morgan presented a proposal, and the Committee is currently studying the proposal.

How many groups does CGC Host Annually?

Subtitled: What Do Ya’ll Do the Rest of the Year?

t

  • 2022 will be hopping! We have 40 groups on the books for the remainder of the year.
  • We only have a few weekends available through next February, and 3 of those are New Years, Christmas, and Easter.
  • We work with multiple groups on campus at the same time, so if you want to plan a retreat for your small group, we can still add others to the calendar!
  • Those who minister at CGC year ‘round are ultra-thankful for the groups we get to serve.

The Big Picture: CGC’s Future

-

  • The August 2021 flood is almost 6 months behind us – the second one in as many years.
  • I have a clear goal. Get our core buildings out of the flood plain. It is poor stewardship to put money into equipment and structures that are sitting ducks for the next flood.
  • In 1974 when CGC began hosting summer camps, no leader could have foreseen the weather patterns that would result in so much water in our dining hall. Here's the track record for the dining hall.

           YEAR       WATER

2010   -   3 inches

2019   -   2 feet

2021   -   5 feet

I see three things clearly now.

  • We need to build on higher ground.
  • God will provide resources over time to pay for new construction. I don't need to worry
  • It's my job to lead in listening to God's voice as He shows us what to do at CGC.

When funds arrive, we will be ready to build. Higher.

Finley Knowles

Executive Director

Do You Know what a TBAM is?

t

  • TEN BUCKS A MONTH Club ("T-BAM" for short)
  • As the name suggests club members pay $10/month
  • New donor option that focuses solely on getting ready for a new dining hall complex on higher ground
  • April 30 - Date of official launch at District Assembly
  • 28 - The number of unique individuals who have already signed up
  • 60 - Equivalent donations (28 people are giving $600 each month, so it's like having 60 people signed up)
  • 300 - Short term goal for how many TBAM-ers needed to cover the estimated mortgage for the new dining hall
  • 1,000 - Long-term goal for how many TBAM-ers needed to continue to move to higher ground and out of the flood plain
  • Buildings in the flood plain - Youth Chapel, Offices and Welcome Center, Snack Shack, Maintenance Garage, Staff residence on Sam Hollow Rd

SAVE the DATE

Work Day at CGC - Let's get ready for District Assembly and Summer Camps...Together!

Saturday, April 2nd, 8 AM

The great supporters of CGC gave right at $100K shortly after the flood, and those funds were used to restore facilities and replace contents as much as we could with the money we had. That money spent quickly, and the only thing stopping us from handling the list below is money.

You are invited to come work with us on April 2 or donate money for the materials...or both. If you are part of a class or small group, maybe there's a project or two you could take care of.

  • Burn Pile - Most of what's left of our burn pile is a couple of huge root balls, haul off    Thorough policing of the grounds - looking for anything that is out of place, keep or trash
  • Mulch Office Beds - lay fabric, spread 1" brown rock
  • Front Fence - Several sections of our wooden fence need to be repaired/ replaced
  • Wood Chopped for Group Bonfires - We have plenty of downed trees to get head start.
  • Mailbox - new 4x4 and new mailbox
  • Buckeye Dorm - paint the other side that wasn't painted, we have the paint
  • Flag Pole - A storm toppled our American flag pole, new fiberglass pole set ($1,200)
  • Railings on bridge - replace or repair 6x6 posts and 1x6 rails
  • Johnson Lodge - New flooring vinyl flooring laid in Cole and Drake meeting rooms (~$14K)
  • Flowers at Mitchell Tabernacle - the planter needs to be readied for the new spring season
  • Flowers - Plant bulbs around the "big rock" at the main entrance
  • Youth Chapel - Rebuild front and back walls, lay block for the perimeter wall of the restrooms   Dining Hall and Snack Shack - spread a load of dirt and replant, sew grass seed
  • Dining Hall - Emergency exit needs new threshold, create a rock landing and sidewalk outside of door, add bushes
  • New Awning - The awning to the main entrance at the Creekside Café is ready to be replaced
  • Rocking Chairs - Purchase 4 new rocking chairs (~$175 each)
  • Flower bed - replant at the CGC sign at the back entrance
  • Courtyard Lighting -Install shepherds hooks and tea lights around fire pit behind the dining hall
  • Picnic Tables - Purchase 8 new picnic tables for pavilion, and for each dorm
