New Paragraph

The Small Business Administration is back in the news. After four years of satisfying all they need, they have released the first installment of funds. Many of us thought this may never happen, but it turns out patience is the main thing one needs to work with the SBA!

Finley Knowles, Executive Director

I'm not referring to the stereotypical existential question.  I mean "Why am I working here at Camp Garner Creek?"

When I was 11 years old, I sensed a call from God to dedicate my life to ministry. I didn't know what that meant at the time, but it was an unmistakable moment that has never faded. So at each turn in my career path, my first question has been, "Heavenly Father, you guide my steps. My life is Yours." So when the opportunity came to serve in a position of leadership at CGC, the job lined up with the call.

I grew up attending Christian summer camps, and I knew how many life decisions happened in the camp setting...for me and my peers. So I absolutely wanted to move to Dickson! Lori and I talked and she told me right off the bat her answer was yes. We took two weeks to think, pray, and visit campus.

Visiting campus was especially important to Lori. She's been the force in our family's culture since 1983, so it was important for her to visit and listen to the Spirit while standing in the house that would possibly become home.  By the way, we realized that Lori was part of the very first Jr. High Camp at CGC. This place was full of positive energy.

Each day as I give attention to the tasks at hand, I am never far from the driving force of CGC's mission:

Camp Garner Creek exists to provide a beautiful place of refuge for the Body of Christ to experience meaningful connection with God and each other.

Through camps, retreats, conferences, events, and assemblies, because God set this place aside for Kingdom purposes, thousands of people will hold this place in their hearts as a familiar path on their spiritual journey. By fulfilling its mission, CGC participates in establishing Christ's kingdom…on earth as it is in heaven.

I count myself blessed that God has opened career doors for me that lined up with His call on my life. I've been able to do what I love to do while knowing I play a small part in the spiritual growth of others. It's how I serve my Lord.

The Most Memorable Fun

You Will Ever Have!

Did you know we always have a list of service projects waiting on volunteers. CGC's staff has spent so much time restoring the camp to pre-flood conditions over the last 6 years, a solid list of projects is available.  To explore the project list or sign up use the QR code in the image above or visit the CGC website. https://www.campgarnercreek.org/volunteer

The group that volunteers together serves the Lord, enjoys enriched fellowship, builds and solidifies relationships, meets a specific need, and helps to shrink the project list!

CGC Pet Policy

Family Camp is coming in hot! It's almost time, and we look forward to seeing you. Recently we’ve had some misunderstandings about our pet policy. So we want to make sure we’re all on the same page. CGC has a no pets policy for our lodging spaces.  They're not banned from campus, just the indoor lodging spaces. So if you're RV'ing or tent camping, you're fine to bring you extra family member. We love animals and we love keeping our guest spaces clean, cozy and comfortable for everyone (including those with allergies).

UPDATES ON CAMPUS CONSTRUCTION & REMODELING

Proposed Dining Hall

The blueprints have been approved by the State Fire Marshal. That's progress. What's next?

Negotiations fell through with the contractor we'd been working with since last September. They were not able to bring the dining hall in at $2 million. We were looking to them for a turnkey job.

To stay in the $2 million budget, we are abandoning the turnkey feature, so we are gearing up to be much more hands-on.  We need another couple of months to solidify the plan.

Renovation for Snach Shack and Offices

Discussions about moving our current office and Snack Shack have been in the works for two years. Due to delays in completing Springfield and the Youth Chapel, our staff has not yet begun renovations. With the deck clearing, we anticipate starting in August this year. If this plan survives, we will be in our new facilities by summer of 2026.

A lot of good news surrounds this project. During 2024 Family Camp, offerings were given to cover the Snack Shack area. At 2025 Family Camp, we'll be receiving offerings to cover the office portion of the renovation, so hopefully once the Snack Shack is complete, we will roll right into the office side of the building.

The Nurse Station and Clinic have already been completed, so it is only each end that we lack.

Maintenance Barn

New Staff Residence

To wrap up this section, we have a maintenance barn and new staff residence on the drawing board. Funds from the SBA are are intended to fund the projects; however, we will complete the Dining Hall first to make sure we don't end up needing SBA funds to complete the new dining hall.

The Maintenance Barn is a critical piece of campus organization. Presently, the Facilities Stewardship team has its materials, equipment, and supplies stored in 5 separate locations, with one of the largest spaces being in the flood zone. The proposed 4,000 sq ft structure will create a space to bring all things under one roof. This will help us be more aware of our inventory and allow us to better protect equipment from the elements.

The Staff Residence is needed because of the loss of the white house on Sam Hollow Rd. in the 2021 flood. We need that space back to remedy some cramped living quarters for displaced staff.

Become a member of the Ten Bucks a Month Club (TBAM). TBAM is the plan for servicing the debt incurred in the construction of the dining hall. We will have a $500K mortgage on a $2M building.

Family Camp

Be in prayer for Family Camp. Dr. John Juneman and Dr. Scott Daniels are back as our evening speakers. Ray Dunning is leading the morning Bible study. These are poignant opportunities for the Holy Spirit to woo and convict. We all need that. Also pray for Rev. Tonya Marks who is serving once again as the Director of Family Camp. There are lots of moving parts and lots of activities for all ages. She has brought a new level of participation at Family Camp. All in all, we want the Spirit of Christ to be loose and free to speak to each person who attends.

  ·    Evening Services 7 pm

  ·    Morning Bible Study 10:30 am

  ·    Meals are 8 am, Noon, and 5:30 PM.

Continue to pray for Gary Rhodes, our Director of Facility Stewardship. Gary is still having issues with strength and energy. His doctors have a lot of things they are trying, but nothing has solved Gary’s problem. Pray for Gary’s healing.
